‘brand new eyes’, the third album from the AWESOME Paramore was released here in the UK yesterday. Since then, it’s been on repeat – it’s THAT good… AND it’s currently on course to knock Madonna off the top of the album chart next Sunday which, is great going for a band that music snobs have often criticised for being too lightweight and then lazily and unfairly compared frontwoman Hayley Williams to Avril Lavigne.
With this album, the band has clearly grown and developed… everything is BIGGER! The songwriting is still great, the production and instrumentation are focused and strong. Opener, ‘Careful’ sets the tone and style for most of this album. There are a few changes of pace but the main objective is fast and loud! First single ‘Ignorance’ still sounds great. ‘Playing God’, ‘Brick By Boring Brick’ and ‘Where The Lines Overlap’ are cracking – melodic and instant sing-a-long tracks. ‘Misguided Ghosts’ is a beautifully cracked and broken song that shows off Hayley’s vulnerable side. ‘Decode’ from the ‘Twilight’ film soundtrack is included as a UK bonus track and fits perfectly onto this magnificent album. Long live Paramore – see you all at Wembley!
