Bananarama released their tenth studio album yesterday. It’s the fifth album to be released as a duo and the first since 2005’s ‘Drama’. The physical album contains 11 tracks, whilst digitally 4 additional bonus tracks are available.
So, is it any good? Yes, it’s a strong and solid album that remains uptempo and dancefloor orientated throughout. The brilliant lead single ‘Love Comes’ entered the chart at a disappointing 44, despite this, it’s a great way to kick off and set the tone for the rest of the album. The second track ‘Love Don’t Live Here’ continues the high standard. Other highlights include ‘Tell Me Tomorrow’ and ‘We’ve Got The Night’.
The album features 3 cover versions which for me is the biggest downfall PLUS all four digitial bonus tracks are cover versions as well. There really is NO need and the duo have a habit of recording classics but making terrible dance versions (for example, ‘Careless Whisper’, recorded for their album ‘Exotica’ in 2001…)
Overall though, there’s more good than bad here and it’s the best of their recent releases so why not give it a go!
