The Frances Ruffelle - EP

The Frances Ruffelle EP

It was difficult to sleep last night, not because we’re off on holiday today (see you in a few weeks) BUT because TODAY, the divine Ms. Frances Ruffelle releases her first new music since 2004! HURRAH!

‘The Frances Ruffelle EP’ is a glorious collection of classic songs delivered as only Frances can… with warmth, character and passion. Frances’ voice shines and soars throughout this four track EP, she has a wonderful ability to make you feel… her voice resonates and transports you to new and exciting places – whether it be on the bold and striking ‘Lucky Day’, the playful and seductive ‘Alabama Song’ or the pure emotional ballad ‘Love Me For What I Am’, Frances proves why she has been able to sustain such an impressive career within an often fickle industry. The production, arrangement and instrumentation on the four tracks has been loving crafted to frame the songs as well as Frances’ sensationally beautiful voice.

Travie McCoy & Bruno Mars

Gym Class Hero’s lead vocalist Travie McCoy officially releases his debut solo single this week. The track entitled ‘Billionaire’ features the vocal stylings of Bruno Mars. It is taken from Travie’s debut album ‘Lazarus’ which is available now.

Simply Does It!

‘You Lost Me’ is the incredibly beautiful new single from the always AMAZING Christina Aguilera. ‘You Lost Me’ is the second single to be released from ‘Bionic, which has many many highlights and is actually really fantastic despite what critics and haters might constantly seem to suggest. The video is understated and beautiful, the video clip also uses the album version of the track but the version to be released is a radio edit and is slightly more jangly… you can hear the new version on Christina’s MySpace page here.

Alesha Dixon

Louder, Louder, Louder!!!

HURRAH… new Alesha Dixon!!! ‘Drummer Boy’ is the brand new single due for release on 5th September. It’s the first track to be taken from Alesha’s second (technically third) album entitled ‘Unleashed’.

Above, is the first look at the new look Alesha (nice) and the new look Alesha logo (also nice)!

Below, you can listen to the track in full – it’s A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, it’s unmistakably Alesha and also happens to be THE perfect statement of the ‘I’ve been away and now let’s take it to a new level’ variety! Blinking marvellous…

“This Pretty Face Don’t Work No More”

This week, one of THE nicest and most normal popstars, Amy MacDonald releases the ‘This Pretty Face EP’. The digital EP features the ‘This Pretty Face’ which is the third single taken from Amy’s superb second album ‘A Curious Thing’. Like, many tracks on the album, ‘This Pretty Face’ is a lament to the behaviour and attitude of the fame hungry.

The video clip is a hoot…

The EP also features a couple of remixes and some live tracks – you can buy it from iTunes here. A six track live EP of Amy’s recent gig as part of the iTunes Festival is available now by clicking here.

…And Breathe!

QUESTION:

What do you do when the world seems to be particularly mad? For example, let’s imagine – the cat kills a bird and displays all of the feathers onto the rug he makes a point of avoiding at all costs, the Virgin Media technician is beyond rude and the estate agent tells you off when you say you’d rather not wait in all day on your birthday (9th August for anyone who might be interested) so that someone can have a poke around! Aaargh…

ANSWER:

You make a cup of tea and stick on the new (although, it’s not technically brand new as it’s been available since June) Morcheeba album, ‘Blood Like Lemonade’. The album is very exciting for a number of reasons… the main reason being that the Godfrey brothers have patched it up with Skye Edwards, who after seven years and two very superb solo albums returns to front the group – collective HURRAH!!!

The album itself is glorious… it’s reflective, soulful and rich in textures and sounds. The production values and songwriting is grrreat throughout. Moreover, it’s an absolute joy to hear the tremendous vocals of Skye on a Morcheeba album once more. Highlights from the album include the magnificent lead single ‘Even Though’ (video below), the beautiful and fragile ‘I Am The Spring’, the hypnotic ‘Recipe For Disaster’ and the perfect remedy for any day that might push you over the edge ‘Easier Said Than Done’.

RESULT:

One ‘spin’ of ‘Blood Like Lemonade’ and everything is fine again… YAAAY!

By the way, the band are currently touring and playing festivals across the world, for more information visit their official website here.

There Simply Aren’t Enough Video’s Featuring Pop Stars In Gorilla Suits!

Next Monday (26th July) sees the release of ‘Annie You Save Me’, the terrifically ace new single from Graffiti6. The track oozes goodness… it’s sweet and soulful, with huge production and THOSE vocals from Jamie Scott, who sounds as gorgeously divine as ever, he really has got one of the best voices (you should seriously track down his solo work or the album as Jamie Scott & The Town – immense). Also, everyone has an Annie in their lives so it’s particularly fun to insert the name of your own real life Annie when singing along, errrm, maybe that’s just us then!

Anyway, the video is also rather a lot of fun…

The single will be taken from the album entitled ‘Colours’, which is scheduled for release later in the year. For more info – click here or visit the band’s website here

100 Miles From Memphis…

The highly AMAZING Sheryl Crow releases her seventh studio album today entitled ’100 Miles From Memphis’. The album showcases an impressive blend of vintage blues and soul inspired sounds.

The lead single ‘Summer Day’ is a laidback, addictive slow burner that becomes more powerful with each listen (video above). Other highlights from the record include a distinctive cover of Terence Trent D’Arby’s 1990′s hit Sign Your Name’, it also features JustinTimberlake on backing vocals. ‘Long Road Home’ is a beautiful carefree, feel-good number with a fantastic sing-a-long chorus. ‘Stop’ is a gorgeous piano led heartfelt ode to losing love. Even though some of the tracks feel too long in length, on the whole it’s another superb Sheryl Crow record – marvellous!

The video below, is a fascinating look exploring the inspiration behind the album, it features footage from the studio sessions and interviews with Sheryl and the musicians involved with this superb album.
