Phil Collins Goes Back!

The legendary and completely brilliant Phil Collins has a new album out this week entitled ‘Going Back‘, which is a collection of cover versions of soul classics. Of projects such as these some might say ‘what’s the point?’ and can often be cynically referred to as cash-ins ESPECIALLY when the original versions are definitive… HOWEVER, Phil does his homework here, he manages to craft an album of songs that is really affective and has chosen music he clearly loves. The key classics such as Stevie Wonder’s ‘Uptight’ and ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ by The Temptations are perfectly good but the album shines when Phil opts for less obvious choices. His version of ‘Blame It On The Sun’ is gorgeous, ‘Too Many Fish In The Sea is a lot of fun and ‘(Love Is Like A) Heatwave’ is fantastic…

‘Going Back’ is available as a standard edition which boats 18 tracks, whilst the deluxe edition is expanded, adding a further seven songs to feature 25 tracks and a DVD! There is also an additional bonus track available from iTunes.
