‘Shine A Light’ just happens to be McFly’s bestest best single to date, overtaking the likes of ‘Obviously’, ‘I’ll Be Ok’ and ‘Star Girl’, which is no mean feat. The track itself is completely gorgeously addictive and genuinely heartfelt. Tom’s vocals at the beginning of the track are some of his best, he sounds genuinely delicate and restrained.
The track is a very well composed and structurally it contains everything a good pop song should – a memorable chorus, a pre-chorus, middle eight, instrumental break, a bridge – it’s got it all! Taio Cruz has done an incredible job producing this number, it showcases an alternative, softer side to his usual sound and it works magnificently…
McFly’s fifth studio album ‘Above The Noise’ is released officially in the UK today and is blooming mavellous… opening track ‘End Of The World’ sets the tone for the first few tracks – all of which are absoultely brilliant belters. Other highlights include, ‘I’ll Be Your Man’ which recalls the programmed drum beat loop sounds of early Prince records and ‘Nowhere Left To Run’ which features some incredible vocals from Danny and is destined to be a catchy, sing-a-long classic.
The use of Dallas Austin as the main producer has worked wonders for revilaising their already solid sound. The album is mature, focused and superb both lyrically and musically… it flows and makes sense as an entire piece of work. ‘Above The Noise’ again helps to highlight why McFly are still Britain’s best band, even after seven years!
