The very amazing The Saturdays are back with a brand new single ‘What About Us’, which is available in the UK from TODAY – HURRAH!
‘What About Us’ is a big giant fantastic pop song – it is current, fresh with that distinct Saturdays sound. It is summery and has a feel good uptempo groove – it really makes those feet move! Structurally, it has a great hook and we LOVE the way in which it builds to a double chorus towards the end of the track – all the best pop songs have them after all! The lead vocals from Vanessa and Rochelle are impeccable, whilst Una’s strength in ad-libs shines. The track takes a few listens but soon enough becomes infectiously ingrained in the brain – na, na, na, na, na!
The video for the track was shot in downtown Los Angles and captures the girls deliver their most confident and polished routines to date. They look beyond stunning as usual too…
An alternate version of the track features Sean Paul. Not entirely necessary, but he adds a heightened sense of stature and fun. The rapper ad-libs during the introduction and trades lines with the girls during the second verse. He offers a full rap in place of the pre-chorus towards the climax of the track. Sean Paul also features in the video, which you can see below – it is essentially the same video but with Sean Paul dotted throughout…
Having spent much of the year in the USA raising their profile with their own TV show ‘Chasing The Saturdays’, which airs on E!, the girls have also been appearing on high profile shows such as Wendy WIlliams, Jay Leno and The Today Show. Whilst the single version of ‘What About Us’ is all kinds of brilliant, it is this acoustic version performed on The Jeff Probst Show in America that is utterly delightful! Their harmonies are tight, the vocals are strong and each member shines – it is completely delicious because it shows how fantastically great The Saturdays are underneath the gloss.
‘What About Us’ is available to download now and fingers crossed for the girls – it certainly is good enough to become their first UK number one single next Sunday!
