A Pop Round-Up

Hello everybody, bear with us whilst we try a new layout – any problems or suggestions, please do get in touch. Right then, let’s consider some things that are happening in the world of pop…

*After being rush released yesterday following a set of low quality leaks, ‘Applause’, the new single from Lady GaGa has already been picked apart to within an inch of its life, if we might add our two penneth worth we LOVE the ‘oooh’ bit at 2:31 – on the first listen it came out of nowhere and sounded really cool and different especially for GaGa. Other than that it’s business as usual for Mother Monster…

The effervescent VV Brown has debuted the full studio version of her forthcoming single ‘The Apple’. The track is the second release to be taken from her sophmore effort ‘Samson And Delilah‘. Produced by Pascal Gabriel and Dave Okumu, the track is a thuddingly brilliant piece of elegant pop – it is vast, it is danceable and it is a heady and exhilarating listen.

*Marina has drawn a line under the enormously exceptional ‘Electra Heart’ project with a video featuring varying visual images from across the related body of work to accompany a new, previously unreleased song titled ‘Electra Heart’. The track itself a glorious summation of all the many elements that feature on the album album and its associated reference points.

*Following a hugely welcome and triumphant live return in the past year, the superlative Lisa Stansfield has announced plans for a series of shows across the UK in support of her seventh studio album, titled ‘Seven’, which is her first studio work in nine years (didn’t you just wish for a moment for it to have been seven years) and is released on 7th October. The album is preceded by the single ‘Can’t Dance’Details of tour dates and venues are as below…

*The hugely exciting, emerging talent, Lulu James releases her second major label single this week, in the shape of ‘Step By Step’, which is a pulsating piece of dance pop at its very finest. The simple yet universal lyric, her soaring and reactive vocal delivery and the fact it sounds unlike most pop songs at present.  The video is completely bonkers but it is in keeping with Lulu’s enigmatic, striking live performances.

*The very amazing Arlissa features in an advert for a forthcoming BBC drama series ‘What Remains‘. The track heard is a cover of Olive’s seminal 1997 hit ‘You’re Not Alone’, which Arlissa reworked some two years ago… her rendition is a slow, haunting exploration which gives her unique vocal the space to emote the timeless lyrical narrative. Gorgeous…

*Finally, Eliza Doolittle has a uploaded footage based around her recent gig at Islington Assembly Hall, which depicts the preparations throughout the day ahead of showtime… the video features snippets of three new tracks ‘Let it Rain’, ‘One In A Bed’ and ‘Waste Of Time’ as well as rehearsal footage of the medley she sang featuring covers of Mariah Carey, Blink-182 and the Spice Girls.
