The incomparable Annie Lennox has revealed details of her forthcoming solo project, ‘Nostalgia’.
Following 2010’s festive offering ‘A Christmas Cornucopia’, Annie’s second album for her new label at Island is a collection of covers taken from the American songbook and ranges from the likes of ‘Georgia On My Mind’, ‘Strange Fruit’ to ‘God Bless The Child’.
In the video below, Annie discusses the intention behind the project – her reasons for choosing these songs and what they mean to her. As ever, Annie speaks passionately, intently and eloquently – she is acutely aware of the songs beginnings, their histories and is committed and involved in presenting her own vision for the track, she isn’t merely singing the songs for the sake of it, she understands and empathises with the lyrical content and she lives the context and settings to when they were written. This is what makes Annie so remarkable and why it is right that she should present these songs at this time.
‘Nostalgia’ is available from 27th October. An online companion, with content which will be added leading up to the release date is available here.
